Ingka Group powers Germany’s solar development with new investments

Ingka Investments is breaking ground for two major new solar parks totalling 110 MW of capacity. Simultaneously IKEA Germany is expanding access to home energy solutions that put renewable power directly in the hands of everyday households.

Ingka Investments has commenced construction of a new solar park in Bokel Schäferkate and the construction of another solar park in Heideland will start in early 2027, totalling 110 MW. In operation by October 2026 and October 2027 respectively, these parks will generate enough renewable electricity for roughly 26,000 European households, supporting Germany’s 2030 renewable energy targets.

Frederik de Jong, Head of Renewable Energy, Ingka Investments

“We are proud to be announcing this important initiative in Germany, where we have a long-term presence and commitment. These solar parks represent another step towards more renewable energy production in the region and supports Germany’s energy mix and consumption goals for 2030. With our solar and wind farms, we aim to make renewable energy available throughout the IKEA value chain and beyond.”

These new parks strengthen Ingka Investments’ existing German renewable energy portfolio, contributing to its commitment to invest EUR 7.5 billion by 2030 into utility-scale wind and solar projects to increase production of renewable energy.

Peter Jelkeby, Country Retail Manager, IKEA Germany

“For us, creating a better everyday life for the many people goes hand in hand with creating a more sustainable energy future. Through the investments in large-scale solar parks, we are helping to decarbonise the German energy system, not just our own operations. A greener grid benefits every household and business connected to it.

At the same time, IKEA Germany also wants to empower customers directly through solutions in people’s homes – like balcony solar kits that are simple to set up, and a dynamic electricity tariff that opens up more affordable renewable power, making sustainable energy accessible. This approach ensures that sustainable energy transitions from an aspiration to an everyday reality for the many, truly shaping a better future for all.”

Through a partnership with Svea Solar, customers in Germany can see details of the range of energy services offered via our partner online. Balcony solar kits make home electricity generation straightforward – simply plug in and go. A dynamic electricity tariff, managed through an app, delivers renewable energy at wholesale prices and works alongside existing home energy systems.

This approach, encompassing generation, distribution, and consumer engagement, demonstrates IKEA Germany’s important contribution to the nation’s renewable energy goals, reflecting its philosophy of creating sustainable solutions “for the many people.”
