Harnessing Finland's forestry excellence for global impact

Our Finnish operations benefit from Finland’s world leading forestry infrastructure and decades of research investment. With over 70% of Finland’s land area covered by forest, the country has developed expertise in responsible forest management, extensive historical forest data systems, and a culture of long-term stewardship. We leverage this environment to develop and test innovative management solutions before scaling them internationally.

Leading biodiversity innovation through AI and machine learning

We are developing a biodiversity index tool that combines artificial intelligence and machine learning to transform how we manage forest ecosystems. This tool analyses remote sensing data alongside field verified observations to identify biodiversity hotspots across our Finnish properties. By providing forest managers with precise, data-driven insights into where nature values may be present, the tool ensures these areas are appropriately protected within our forest management plans. This technology represents a leap forward in balancing timber production with biodiversity conservation, allowing us to make more informed decisions that support both healthy forests and thriving ecosystems.

Trialling continuous cover forestry

Finland’s position at the forefront of European forestry industry makes it a good testing ground for Ingka Investments’ commitment to progressive forest management. Over the coming years, our Finnish properties will serve as trial sites for continuous cover forestry practices.
