On Saturday, 27 June, IKEA Retail Sweden will offer couples the opportunity to get married in five IKEA stores across Sweden. With a wedding at IKEA, the initiative will make it possible for customers to say “I do” in a slightly different way.
At five stores – Malmö, Linköping, Jönköping, Uddevalla and Karlstad – IKEA will provide a civil wedding officiant and the opportunity to marry in an inspiring wedding setting inside the store. After the ceremony, couples will be treated to an IKEA summer menu and will receive a wedding gift from IKEA to take home.
“Togetherness often begins when we open our hearts and say yes – and that is also how lifelong companionship begins,” says Martina Bjuvenius, Interior Design Manager at IKEA Sweden. “At IKEA, we want to make it possible for more people to say yes to both love and togetherness, which is why we are offering our customers the opportunity to get married in a unique environment and create memories for life.”
The opportunity to get married at an IKEA store is limited, and three couples will be able to marry at each of the five participating stores on Saturday, 27 June.
Before the ceremony at IKEA, couples must have completed a marriage license application (“hindersprövning”) with the Swedish Tax Agency. For the marriage to be legally valid, couples must bring valid identification, and two witnesses must be present.
