IKEA Retail Korea has confirmed its part in contributing to positive change with the announcement of its continued commitment to support unwed single moms for the third consecutive year, donating KRW 100 million to the ‘Mom-Up Project’.
Established in 2017 in partnership with the Korea Foundation for Women (KFW), the ‘Mom-Up Project’ is designed to support the social independence of unwed single moms and provide opportunities for their families to enjoy a sustainable future in a safer, happier environment. Over the past two years, 61 families have been supported with opportunities to participate in various programs to improve self-confidence and their living environment.
KFW were established in 1999 with the aim to achieve an equal and harmonious life for all women. It supports public volunteer activities to achieve a gender equal society in all sectors and foster environment which is based on sharing value and caring community to raise hope for women who are struggling social and economic disadvantages.
This year, the ‘Mom-Up Project’ will continue to support 34 unwed single moms and their children living in the Seoul and Gyeonggi area. They will take part in regular self-help meetings for building a social network among the single mom families, and home furnishing workshops led by IKEA Korea co-workers, who will offer personalised home furnishing solutions to improve the children’s study rooms.

According to surveys conducted on the participants over the last two years, many respondents expressed that being part of the ‘Mom-Up Project’ has helped recover their confidence and hopes of a better future. It has also contributed to improving the relationship with their children, whose emotional independence has significantly grown in the improved homes.
