Voices of hope offer inspiration during IKEA Foundation Week
IKEA Foundation Week is an opportunity to step into the world of the Foundation and its partners, focusing on Climate and Livelihoods, and working to address the root causes of inequality.
From 7-11 June, IKEA co-workers and customers will learn more about the Foundation through Ingka Group stores, and both internal and external communications channels.
Five voices of hope offer powerful real-life examples of the Foundation’s work alongside its partners. They represent hope across renewable energy, sustainable farming, clean air, refugees and emergencies.
The IKEA Foundation brings hope to families, young people, and vulnerable children around the world, alongside supporting partners they empower people in low-income communities. This is done to create sustainable livelihoods and tackle climate change to ensure that there is a liveable planet for future generations.
To create lasting impact, the IKEA Foundation actively seeks ways to engage in dialogue and collaboration with local organisations and communities.
What is the IKEA Foundation?
Established in 1982, the IKEA Foundation shares the IKEA vision to create a better everyday life for the many people. In 2009, the IKEA Foundation was able to expand its charter to include a broader mission of improving children’s opportunities, so they can ultimately take control of their own futures.
Profits from Ingka Group may only be used to reinvest back into the business, save for a rainy day, or go out for charitable purposes through the IKEA Foundation.
- Since 2009, the IKEA Foundation has given more than EUR 1.4 billion in grants
- The IKEA Foundation grants approximately EUR 200 million a year
- An additional EUR 1 billion has been committed over the next five years to rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions
- In addition to the Ingka Group commitments during the early stages of the pandemic, the IKEA Foundation also committed to provide up to EUR 10 million, primarily to help existing partners with coronavirus specific programmes supporting communities around the world
- The IKEA Foundation was the ninth largest grant-giving foundation in Europe in 2019/20
IKEA Foundation Week events
A host of digital events take place between 7-11 June, hosted by IKEA Foundation staff and their partners, including a kick-off event with IKEA Foundation CEO Per Heggenes and Ingka Group CEO Jesper Brodin on 7 June. Jesper will then join IKEA Foundation Climate Leader Liz McKeon in conversation to talk all things climate the following day.
There’s an opportunity to learn more and step into the world of the IKEA Foundation through an immersive augmented reality experience to connect to the stories they’re sharing. This can be done by downloading their new Augmented Reality app on the iPhone App or Google Play store.
Five voices of hope
Below you can watch one of the five voices of hope from the IKEA Foundation and their partners. Spoorthi is an Indian schoolgirl who, with the help of renewable energy, is able to see a brighter future for herself and her family. Spoorthi lives in a village where a renewable energy power supply has been installed by SELCO Foundation, an organisation that the IKEA Foundation supports to help people make brighter futures for themselves.
